Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not be speaking or presiding at this week's Democratic National Convention — a huge blow caused by the leak of internal DNC emails that suggested favoritism toward Hillary Clinton over Sen. Bernie Sanders during the primary.

Instead, Rep. Marcia Fudge of Ohio will chair the convention, gaveling in and out each day’s proceedings, CNN reported Sunday.

A visibly perturbed Sanders called on Wasserman Schultz to resign Sunday in the wake of the email leaks, which included her calling Sanders’ campaign manager a “damn liar” and questions about Sanders’ religion.

Democrats want to project unity at their convention after a sometimes divisive primary between Sanders and Clinton. The leaked emails raised new complaints from Sanders backers that the party rigged the primary for Clinton — a charge that GOP nominee Donald Trump echoed after the emails were made public.

The DNC press secretary wrote to the party's communications director about planting a narrative to the media that Sanders's "campaign was a mess," according to one email. Another email appears to show a plan to question Sanders's religion.

The email leaks came just days before the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
