LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan's race for governor next year has gotten a bit more crowded with the entry of Republican Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.
The former state lawmaker announced his candidacy Wednesday with events in Clawson, East Lansing and Grand Rapids.
Bouchard says current state leaders haven't done enough to trim Michigan's budget to meet shrinking revenues.
He joins a crowded Republican field that includes Attorney General Mike Cox, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, state Sen. Tom George and possibly Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder. Democrats likely in the field for 2010 include Lt. Gov. John Cherry and state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith.
State law bars Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm from a third term.
