Okla. Republican Coburn to Run Again 2010

TULSA, Okla. -- Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma says he will run for re-election next year to a second term in the U.S. Senate.

The Oklahoma Republican and physician made his announcement Monday in Tulsa.

Coburn has gained a reputation in the Senate as a leading opponent of earmarks and runaway spending.

He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, defeating a Democrat with 53 percent of the vote.

During that 2004 campaign, Coburn pledged to serve no more than two terms in the Senate.

No other Oklahoma candidates have announced plans yet to seek the post in 2010.

Coburn previously served three terms in the Oklahoma House.
