Daniel Webster, Rich Nugent off Panel After Opposing Boehner

Tuesday, 06 Jan 2015 07:11 PM

Officials say two rank-and-file Republicans have been removed from coveted positions on the House Rules Committee after voting against Speaker John Boehner in a leadership election earlier Tuesday.

The officials say Florida Reps. Daniel Webster and Rich Nugent are no longer on the panel, changes that could only have been made with Boehner's approval.

It was unclear if the removal of the two is permanent.

The Rules Committee sets ground rules for debate on all legislation in the House, and is informally known as the speaker's committee.

Webster ran against Boehner in the election to pick a speaker, and got 12 votes.

Nugent was one of 25 Republicans who voted against Boehner.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly discuss internal discussions.
