Bill Clinton Campaigns in Pa. in Murtha Seat Race

Sunday, 16 May 2010 07:52 PM

Former President Bill Clinton has lent his Democratic star power to a party candidate locked in a tight race to fill the western Pennsylvania seat held by the late Rep. John Murtha.

Clinton calls Murtha's aide Mark Critz a "how-to" guy with the goods to bring economic development and jobs to a blue-collar district hit hard by the recession.

Clinton was golfing buddies with Murtha. He said Sunday the late congressman would want his supporters to vote for Critz in Tuesday's special election.

Murtha died in February of complications from gallbladder surgery following 36 years in office.

The Republican candidate is businessman Tim Burns, who's hoping to capitalize on growing discontent with congressional Democrats to win the seat.
