Foley Not Taking Part in Latest Connecticut Debate

Thursday, 23 Oct 2014 08:25 PM

The latest Connecticut gubernatorial debate was overshadowed by the elephant who was not in the room — Republican candidate Tom Foley.

Foley didn't participate in Thursday's forum, which was sponsored by WVIT-TV.

The station left a seat on the stage open for Foley until 6:45 p.m. for the 7 p.m. debate Spokesman Mark McNulty says Foley instead was taping a segment for a Sunday talk show on rival station WFSB-TV

That left Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and conservative petitioning candidate Joe Visconti to debate. They discussed issues including the economy, gun control and education funding.

Malloy called Foley's decision not to participate disrespectful.

This is the sixth of seven forums scheduled in the race. The final one will be held on Nov. 2, the Sunday before the election.
