Fiorina and Super PAC to Report Raising Almost $5 Million

Monday, 06 Jul 2015 09:11 PM

Carly Fiorina's campaign said Monday she has raised $1.4 million to support her underdog bid for the Republican presidential nomination, and an outside group helping her said it has collected $3.4 million.

In a note to supporters, campaign manager Frank Sadler pointed to Fiorina's recent efforts to build a base of online donors. Sadler acknowledged that Fiorina's campaign lacks the financial firepower of some of her competitors. More than a dozen others also seek the GOP nomination.

"We won't raise as much as others at this early stage of our campaign, but we will raise what we need to go the distance," Sadler wrote.

Meanwhile, a super PAC called Carly for America also disclosed its fundraising total Monday. Together, her supporters have given almost $5 million to support her candidacy. Fiorina, a former businesswoman, unsuccessfully ran for a California Senate seat in 2010, paying for much of that campaign out of her own pocket.

Presidential candidates have until mid-month to report their fundraising details to federal regulators. Super PACs will file their paperwork later in July.

Joining Fiorina in announcing campaign totals before the deadline are Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at $14.2 million and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at $8.3 million. Like Fiorina, both will benefit from super PAC assistance. Outside groups helping Cruz said Monday they've raised almost $38 million to help him, while a super PAC in the works to aid Carson has not yet disclosed its fundraising.
