Huckabee: Cut Funding to UN, Support Vets Instead

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said the United States should stop giving money to the United Nations – and use the money instead on U.S. veterans.

In an interview on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Wednesday night, Huckabee said he hopes a cut-off in funding to the UN will be one of Donald Trump's first acts as president.

"We should eliminate [the funding]," he said. "We ought to take that money that's going to the U.N. and make it available to veterans who have served under the U.S. flag [for] benefits they need."

Huckabee said the United States is "getting zero benefits" in return from the U.N.

"We are getting embarrassed by the actions of the U.N.," he said. "That's money that ought to be spent on American servicemen and service women, and I hope Donald Trump makes it one of the first acts of his presidency. "

The United States reportedly contributes about $3 billion to the U.N. budget.

Huckabee's call for a funding cut-off comes in the wake of a Washington Free Beacon report Congress is already setting the stage to cut off U.S. funding in reaction the world body's controversial anti-Israel resolution.

The Obama administration has come under intense fire for not moving to block the resolution.
