Mitt Romney's niece will be chosen to chair the Republican National Committee, according to a new report.

CNN cites a source on President-elect Donald Trump's transition team who said Ronna Romney McDaniel — the current chair of the Michigan Republican Party — is Trump's choice to lead the national party.

Current RNC head Reince Priebus will serve as Trump's White House chief of staff.

CNN claims Romney McDaniel's nomination will be announced this week. She will have to be confirmed by RNC members, but that's mostly a formality because the incoming president generally selects who will lead the party.

Romney McDaniel worked on her uncle's 2012 presidential campaign and, after serving as Michigan's RNC representative for a year, she became head of the state's GOP in 2015.

On the night Trump won the Michigan Republican primary election, Romney McDaniel said she would back the real estate mogul's White House hopes. That was a stark contrast to Mitt Romney's anti-Trump message earlier this year.

Mitt Romney, however, met with Trump several times recently to discuss serving as secretary of state.
