A potential executive order that would rekindle "Bush-era detention and interrogation policies" — and being weighed by President Donald Trump — is one of nearly 50 prepared for Mitt Romney during his failed 2012 presidential campaign, BuzzFeed News reports.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer has denied any knowledge of the order being a White House document, but BuzzFeed says it is one of several that "appear to have been used by the Trump administration in the president’s first week in office."

The news website says senior policy and legal advisers to Romney prepared the "cache of memos and orders" in early September 2012.

And former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt, who led Romney’s transition plans, told BuzzFeed the documents were "executive order drafts prepared on various subjects related to commitments Romney made during the campaign."

"It's too early to tell whether the Romney proposals will continue to play a key role in Trump’s first 100 days or whether they only have been used in a more limited way," BuzzFeed’s Chris Geidner wrote.
