If he were so inclined, President Donald Trump could find in Rep. Nancy Pelosi a Democrat willing to block and tackle for him, tapping into a relationship that goes back at least 10 years, The New York Times reports.

Trump donated $20,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2007 that helped Pelosi ascend to speaker of the House, and wrote her a congratulatory note as well, according to Politico in 2011.

"Nancy — you're the best. Congrats, Donald," according to Politico.

Though the cordiality of that relationship has frosted over, Pelosi, now ensconced as the House minority leader, continues to extend the occasional olive branch — in between blasting Trump's healthcare and tax reform initiatives as "pathetic" and "doo-doo."

"I could be helpful to him," Pelosi told the Times, adding she would work with Republicans on healthcare if they dropped their pursuit of full repeal of Obamacare.

"We're not here to obstruct him."

And for all his saber-rattling and name-calling against Democrats — Sens. Chuck Schumer, Elizabeeth Warren, e.g. — Trump has largely spared Pelosi.

"He said she was a very tough leader — he respected her," former Trump aide Sam Nunberg told the Times.

Whether that translates into an opportunity to work with Pelosi and House Democrats on legislation is another story.

"And I wanted her, and I continue to want her and everybody else in office, to do great for the country," Trump told Politico in 2011.
