Manafort: Trump Hasn't Ruled Out Accepting Money From Big Donors

Donald Trump has not ruled out accepting money from big donors if he wins the Republican presidential nomination this summer, his convention manager said Thursday.

Paul Manafort was asked by conservative radio host Laura Ingraham Thursday whether Trump would start to accept donations for his campaign. Until now, he has self-funded his push to the White House.

"Well the point is that Donald Trump has been making on the campaign trail is that he's financing his own campaign," Manafort said. "That's very important for him to say now in his mind because he wants people to know that he owes nobody anything other than the American people, or the voters who are picking, choosing his candidacy."

Manafort said if Trump becomes the Republican party's presidential nominee, the party itself will play a larger role in the campaign — including raising money.

"Mr. Trump has indicated that he'd be willing to help the party. But as far as he himself is concerned, his point has been that he wants to make sure that he's not beholden to anyone but the American people," Manafort said.

When pressed on whether Trump would accept money from big donors, Manafort said, "He hasn't made any decisions yet."

A Forbes report this week claimed Trump has loaned $36 million to his campaign, including a whopping $11.5 million last month alone.
