A new Indiana poll shows Donald Trump has a 9-point lead in the Republican race for president ahead of next week's primary.

The American Research Group figures have Trump with 41 percent of support among likely Republican voters. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who picked up an endorsement from Indiana Gov. Mike Pence Friday, is at 32 percent.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 21 percent support, with the remaining 6 percent claiming to be undecided for the May 3 primary that has 57 delegate votes up for grabs.

Among self-reported Republicans who are likely to vote in the GOP primary next week, Trump has a 42 percent to 34 percent advantage over Cruz.

Trump also has the highest percentage of support from men (45 percent) and women (36 percent) of any of the three active candidates.

A New York Times analysis Friday argued that a Trump victory in Indiana might not be necessary for him to secure the nomination after he swept the five primaries held this week.

A Real Clear Politics average of five polls shows Trump with a 6-point lead over Cruz in Indiana.
