Conservative immigration activists are urging President Trump to kill a program that protects thousands of undocumented immigrants from deportation, The Hill reported.

Despite signing two executive orders on immigration, Trump has not addressed the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Former President Obama had started the program for those brought to the U.S. illegally as kids. It is reportedly still accepting enrollees, according to the website.

"These are work permits to illegal immigrants who didn't have them before. That can't be allowed to continue," said Mark Krikorian, who heads the Center for Immigration Studies.

If the Trump White House doesn't end DACA soon, "it makes the program not just Obama's illegal action, but one that the Trump administration has at least acceded to," he added.

The Hill reported Trump has sent mixed signals on where he stands on DACA.

"[Obama's] horrible order that he signed on illegal immigration, where people are just flowing into the country, horribly, without any checks or balances — we don't even know who's coming in," Trump said about a year before his election victory. "That would be ended immediately."

But last month he said he was "going to work something out" for those covered by the program.

And during a press briefing Wednesday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Trump would find a way to deal with the program in a "humane way."

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reported one administration official said Trump believes children brought to the U.S. by their parents did not break immigration laws willfully and should be treated differently than adults.

"We don't want to hurt those kids," the Times reported Trump said during a private congressional luncheon Friday.
