Trump on Healthcare: 'Nobody is Going to Be Dying on the Streets'

Americans will have health insurance coverage once Obamacare is repealed and replaced, and "nobody is going to be dying on the streets," because of lack of coverage, President-elect Donald Trump promised in an interview airing Wednesday.

"We're going to have a plan that's going to be great for people and it's going to be much less expensive, and you will be able to actually have something to say about who your doctor is and your plan," Trump told Fox News' Ainsley Earhardt in the pre-recorded interview for the "Fox and Friends" program.

That will include covering Americans who can't afford insurance, said Trump, saying the plans would "probably have block grants of Medicaid back into the states and we will do things because, you know, there are people that can't afford it. Nobody is going to be dying on the streets with a President Trump. We want to take care of everybody."

The president-elect, answering a question submitted from a viewer about why lawmakers have a separate insurance plan, said that people in high levels of government "have this fantastic plan but people in the country don't have the plan."

Earhardt noted there are people worried about how the cost of insuring everyone will be covered, and Trump replied that "we will get private insurance companies to take care of a lot of people that can afford it that's going to take a tremendous burden off. They will have plans that are great plans. That's very important."

Another viewer asked if there could be a program to allow military veterans to return to service if they can become clean of drugs, after medicating themselves.

"Medicating themselves is exactly what's happening," said Trump, "not only with the military by the way but the whole country. One of the reasons we have a strong border is the drugs are pouring across, heroin is pouring across the border like you wouldn't believe."

But the Mexican border will have a wall, and Mexico will reimburse the United States for it, he insisted.

"When I said we are going to get reimbursed for the wall they said, 'Trump is not keeping his promise,'" said Trump. "Wait a minute, we're going to build a wall...Mexico in some form, Mexico is going to reimburse us for that wall. And everybody is going to be happy. We're going to stop the drugs from coming in."

Yet another viewer wanted to know if there could be a legal status created to allow noncriminal undocumented citizens to remain in the United States to work, and Trump said a plan is being worked out, and will be released in two to three months.

"It's a plan that's going to be very firm but it's going to be a lot of heart," said Trump. "I think they're going to end up being very happy. We're going to have great people coming into our country, people that love our country. And we're also going to have people come into our country, merit-based. You look at Silicon Valley. They can't get -- somebody graduates number one in their class from Harvard and they get thrown out of the country.

"We're going to have great people and people of great talent coming into our country."
