President Donald Trump took a broad swipe at the courts Tuesday night for not helping the country strengthen vetting procedures to keep out terrorists – and declared that he'd continue to criticize judges.

Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner, the president touted "decisive action to improve our vetting procedures," The Hill reported.

"The courts are not helping us, I have to be honest with you," he said. "It's ridiculous. Somebody said I should not criticize judges. OK, I'll criticize judges."

Trump called out federal judge James Robart in the state of Washington for halting the president's initial travel ban last month, referring to the jurist as a "so-called judge."During the presidential campaign last year, Trump also attacked the judge hearing a lawsuit against his defunct real estate education program Trump University, saying that his Mexican heritage made him unable to be impartial.

But Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, on Tuesday said he finds criticism of judges' integrity "disheartening and demoralizing."

"Anyone including the president of the United States?" Connecticut Democratic Sen. Richard Blumethal asked.

"Anyone is anyone," Gorsuch replied.
