The White House said President Donald Trump is committed to moving forward with his pledge to have a border wall constructed between the United States and Mexico.

During Friday's White House press briefing, press secretary Sean Spicer was asked if the administration is seeing less support for the wall's construction (11:45 into the video).

"No," Spicer said flatly. "The president was very clear. That was something that he campaigned on and promised the American people as an effort to protect both our national security and economic security. He is going to fulfill that pledge."

A report last month claimed the border wall's cost could be north of $20 billion, far more than the $12 billion price tag Trump talked about on the campaign trail. The report also said the wall will take three and a half years to build.

The White House has already sought companies who are interested in working on building the wall. More than 200 have expressed an interest at joining the project.

Spicer said Friday Trump plans to keep one of his main campaign promises.

"He's already started to work with the Department of Homeland Security on both the plans and the funding mechanism, and the bidding and the RFP process that we'll roll out shortly," Spicer said. "That's a pledge he intends to maintain."
