As the top cop in the House, Republican Jason Chaffetz has the unenviable task of deciding when and how often to investigate misdeeds from a Republican White House all the while getting pressure to do so from other Republican lawmakers.

Chaffetz, chairman of the Oversight committee, is staring down the resignation of Michael Flynn as national security adviser, Kellyanne Conway promoting products out of the White House, and reports that President Trump held sensitive calls about North Korea's missile test in a public dining room at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Politico reported.

"Traditionally what you have when there's unified government is the majority party tends to protect its quarterback. That's been true for 50 years," former Rep. Tom Davis told Politico.

But Chaffetz is getting pressure from Congressional Republicans to start investigating the Flynn-Russia-Trump fiasco and getting skewered in his home state of Utah.

"I think that the notion, particularly as it relates to conflict of interest, financial interest ... at the presidential level, that it's important that the committee should straighten out the line regardless of party," Rep. Mark Sanford told Politico. "Whether or not that's politically possible or sustainable, time will tell, but I think it’s important."
