Public Policy Poll: Trump, Sanders Lead in Rhode Island

A survey of Rhode Island voters shows that Donald Trump is in the lead among the Republican presidential candidates, and on the Democratic side Bernie Sanders leads, according to Public Policy Polling survey results.
  • Trump got the support of 61 percent of those surveyed.
  • Ted Cruz got the support of 23 percent of those surveyed.
  • John Kasich got the support of 13 percent of those surveyed.
Rhode Island's poll results were the highest for Trump among the three states polled, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Trump also got the highest "favorable" rating in Rhode Island with 69 percent, Ted Cruz received his lowest "favorable" rating with 24 percent in Rhode Island.

In the Democrat race:
  • Sanders got the support of 49 percent of those surveyed.
  • Hillary Clinton got the support of 45 percent of those surveyed.
The Rhode Island poll results show Sanders with his only win over Clinton in the three states polled, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Clinton's favorability is at 54 percent with Democrats in Rhode Island, but Sanders has a 67 percent "favorable" rating with independents that planned to vote in the Democratic primary, according to the survey results.

Presidential primaries for both parties will be held in Rhode Island April 26.
