President-elect Donald Trump's advisers are fighting for control over a new nonprofit political group that aims to help enact Trump's political agenda.

According to Politico, a dozen people close to the president-elect met last Wednesday in Trump Tower, including his former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, his digital director Brad Parscale, his longtime lawyer Michael Cohen, and one of his most influential donors Rebekah Mercer.

"That group that met in that room is going to be the nucleus," an unnamed senior adviser to Trump told Politico.

"Major donors from around the country are calling up and offering their financial assistance with implementing President-elect Trump's reforms, including repealing and replacing Obamacare and also tax reform, and it only makes sense that a structure is created to direct these efforts," Trump spokesman Jason Miller said, according to Politico, after declining to comment on Wednesday's meeting.

Conway is one of the leading candidates to lead the group, having recently turned down the job of White House press secretary, but she could still end up with a position in the administration.

"You need someone who everyone knows is trusted by the president, who is an insider who's on the outside doing that," an anonymous Trump adviser told Politico last Friday.

Although, the adviser added that "the fear is that we would be cannibalizing ourselves," taking qualified candidates out of the White House and Republican National Committee to staff this new group.

According to The Associated Press, Parscale is "leading the effort," telling the AP that the group will be "about supporting the conservative agenda and what the Trump movement stands for."
