Sen. Tom Cotton said Friday he agrees with people shouting at his town hall this week that he works for them — but at the same time, he works for 3 million other Arkansas residents as well who could not be in that room.

"I have to listen to all of them," the Arkansas Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "Obviously, I'm never going to please 3 million people. There is always going to be wide disagreement. I have to do the best I think I can to formulate the right ideas for the people of Arkansas."

Wednesday night, Cotton faced off against a capacity crowd of constituents, most of whom were angry about plans to repeal and replace Obamacare, but he was glad to have so many people there, even if it meant changing to a larger venue.

"We moved from 400 to 1,200 to ultimately the 2,200-person venue," Cotton said. "Some drove from four or five miles away . . . It's not often we get 2,200 of our voters to come out and listen to us, even if some of them don't agree with us. It's important that they know that we're there to listen to them. It's not just talk at them but listen to them. "

There was no doubt the participants organized, he continued, but even if they did, "you don't give up your First Amendment rights because you are well-organized. I was happy to hear from so many Arkansans."

There were many who had trouble being heard or getting to ask their own questions, and people feel "very intensely" about the future, the senator said.

"There is a lot of concern and anxiety about the future of their healthcare," Cotton said. "I share that, not just as someone who has healthcare myself but as someone who is worried about 3 million Arkansans. They have all been affected by Obamacare. No doubt some have been helped but many more hurt. We can continue to help those people who need health insurance support without all of the pain and suffering."

President Donald Trump carried Arkansas with 61 percent of the vote, Cotton said, and they do agree of the job he is doing.

"I think on the things that matter and things that last in the first month he has made a lot of good choices," Cotton said, including nominating Judge Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court.

"I was glad he capped off the security Cabinet with H.R. McMaster as national security adviser, to round out with John Kelly in [Homeland] Security and Mike Pompeo at the CIA," Cotton said. "Where he can act with the executive authority he has. He started the design and planning for southern border wall. He has tried to stop some of the worst problems of Obamacare."
