Former national security adviser Susan Rice targeted President Donald Trump over his "false statements," specifically his wiretapping claims, that "are part of a disturbing pattern of behavior that poses real and potentially profound dangers to U.S. national security" and the nation's influence around the globe.

"The foundation of the United States' unrivaled global leadership rests only in part on our military might, the strength of our economy and the power of our ideals," Rice, who represented the U.S. at the United Nations from 2009 to 2013, wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post.

"It is also grounded in the perception that the United States is steady, rational and fact-based. To lead effectively, the United States must maintain respect and trust. So, when a White House deliberately dissembles and serially contorts the facts, its actions pose a serious risk to America's global leadership, among friends and adversaries alike."

Trump claimed on Twitter that former President Barack Obama had Trump Tower's "wires tapped," but FBI Director James Comey testified before the House Intelligence Committee Monday that he "has no information that supports" this accusation, according to NBC News.

Trump said recently that "all we did was quote a certain very talented legal mind who was the one responsible for saying that on television. I didn't make an opinion on it. You shouldn't be talking to me. You should be talking to Fox," CNBC reported.

He was referring to Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano, who said on-air that British intelligence officials assisted Obama in spying on Trump.

The United Kingdom's Government Communications Headquarters, or GCHQ, denied the allegations as "utterly ridiculous" to The Guardian.
