Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton sent a message out to her supporters Monday, thanking them for their help in her unsuccessful campaign and urging them to press on.

"Before this year ends, I want to thank you again for your support of our campaign," she wote, per The Hill. "While we didn't achieve the outcome we sought, I'm proud of the vision and values we fought for and the nearly 66 million people who voted for them.

"I believe it is our responsibility to keep doing our part to build a better, stronger, and fairer future for our country and the world," Clinton continued. "I look forward to staying in touch in 2017. Onward!"

Clinton has stayed mostly out of the spotlight since her Nov. 8 loss to Republican Donald Trump. She did appear a week later at an event by the Children's Defense Fund, with which she has a decades-long involvement. Clinton has been spotted grocery shopping and walking the woods near her Chappaqua, New York home.

She and husband, former President Bill Clinton, also were spotted at Christmas Eve services at United Methodist Church of Mount Kisco where she has attended for the past decade.

Her year-end message is likely an effort to boost the spirits of supporters surprised by her loss. Sadness on Election Night has continued among her supporters, and in some cases turned to anger — and unsuccessful recount efforts.
