Alaska Bar: No Suspension for Stevens' Law License

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Bar Association has withdrawn a motion to suspend the law license of former Sen. Ted Stevens after a federal corruption case against the Alaska Republican was dismissed.

The bar filed the dismissal order on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

Stevens lost his seat in the 2008 race to Democrat Mark Begich days after being convicted of lying on Senate disclosure forms. That conviction was vacated this week because of prosecutorial misconduct.

Stevens has said there was no reason to go after his law license because he was on the bar's inactive list and couldn't practice in Alaska anyway.

The bar says no action had been taken on Stevens' license since the motion for suspension was filed.
