Siena Poll: Trump, Clinton Maintain Huge Lead in New York

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are continuing their stronghold on the upcoming New York primary election, according to a new Sienna College poll of likely primary voters released Wednesday.

The poll, conducted April 6-11 of  538 likely Democratic primary voters and 469 likely Republican primary voters, showed:

Republicans:
  • Trump, 50 percent;
  • Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 27 percent;
  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, 17 percent.
Democrats:
  • Clinton, 52 percent;
  • Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 42 percent.
Four out of the five candidates marked positive favorability rates, with only Cruz's numbers coming out negative:
  • Sanders, 75-20 percent;
  • Clinton, 73-25 percent;
  • Trump, 58-38 percent;
  • Kasich, 57-31 percent;
  • Cruz, 40-55 percent.
Trump's leads came from:
  • Men, 27 points;
Women, 19 points,
  • New York City, 34 points;
  • Downstate suburbs, 20 points;
  • Upstate, 23 percent.
Meanwhile, the poll showed that most Democrats, along with one-third of Republicans, think Clinton will be the next president.

Democrats:
  • 48 percent, Clinton;
  • 10 percent, Sanders;
  • 10 percent, Trump.
Republicans:
  • 40 percent, Trump;
  • 33 percent, Clinton.
The poll carried a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points for Democrats and 5 percentage points for Republicans.
