Republicans in the Senate are expected to ask Donald Trump at a Thursday meeting to ease off the insults and keep his focus on repairing the nation's economy.

According to The Hill, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn are among the 10 or so lawmakers expected to meet with the presumptive Republican candidate for president. The meeting will take place at 11:45 a.m. at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) headquarters in Washington.

The Hill reports that lawmakers will urge Trump to turn his attention on the economy and the GOP maintaining its control of the Senate.

"The way to differentiate from Hillary Clinton and to bring the party together is to get folks focused on the economy," Republican Sen. Thom Tillis told The Hill.

"It needs to be back on GDP, which we cannot afford to continue to have sub-1 percent."

McConnell pledged his support to Trump last week and also asked him to help unite the Republican party, which has become fractured during the drawn-out primary season.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Republican who has yet to endorse Trump's presidential bid, will also meet with the real estate mogul Thursday in a separate sitdown.
