Nine Senate Democrats are praising protesters of Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, The Washington Examiner reported Friday.

In particular, they support constituents who pressed Republicans over Obamacare at town hall gatherings over the Fourth of July recess.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., issued a statement in the Democrats' weekly address where she claimed the Senate majority was supporting a bill that would "raise costs for all Americans," while lowering the "health care coverage and medical care for many, many, many tens of millions of people." She also suggested it would mainly benefit wealthy Americans.

"The great insult of this whole debate is that the savings being used will be giving a tax cut for wealthiest few Americans, which does not represent real American values, certainly in my judgment," Stabenow stated.

"There's a word in Hawaii that we apply to this kind of flimflammery: it's called 'shibai,'" said Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, explaining the word meant "you put something out and you call it something when it's really the opposite."

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said Democrats needed to "garner more public outrage" over the GOP efforts to alter the nation's healthcare system.

"As they try to whip votes, we've got to rally people. As they try to garner more votes, we've got to try to garner more public outrage. As they try to line up more Republican Senators, we've got to wake up some more American people!" Booker said.

Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., called the Senate GOP bill "the most irresponsible thing I've ever seen" since he became a congressman and imagined how his Republican colleagues negotiated the legislation.

"To have a bill that was done in a back room with a limited number of people to give input, with probably a lot of cigars and steak and whiskey involved, is a bunch of garbage," Tester said.

Other Democratic senators expressing support for those protesting the GOP bill included Sens. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, Michael Bennet of Colorado, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin.
