Scott Pruitt would be the most conservative head of the EPA since 1981, and he'll get far less pushback than his predecessor did 35 years ago, according to analysis in The Washington Post.

Two academics liken the Oklahoma attorney general to Ronald Reagan's first EPA administrator, Anne Gorsuch, who was run off after only two years. The main reason: Republicans and Democrats alike were turned off by Gorsuch's effort to weaken environmental controls, according to the Post.

Pruitt will face no such conflict.

The Post reports the divide between Dems and Republicans now is far more polarizing than it was in 1981, and since the GOP has the majority in both houses of Congress, the skids are greased for Pruitt to reduce and roll back the inordinate amount of regulations.

"As a fellow fierce critic of the EPA, I know he's going to roll back the regulations that have been an overreach," Rep. Chris Collins said last week, noting that the agency is "out of balance. They've gone to the extreme."

Especially when it comes to President Obama's Clean Power Plan, otherwise known as the "war on coal."

"Mr. Pruitt will be a significant voice of reason when it comes to energy and environmental regulations," Laura Sheehan, a spokeswoman for the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, told The New York Times.
