MSNBC Host Scarborough Visits Fox 'Mothership' to talk Conservatism

Former congressman and current MSNBC commentator Joe Scarborough turned up Friday on the conservative Fox News network to talk about conservatism and his new book, saying, "If you want to sell books about Republicans, you have to come to the mothership."

In an appearance on "Fox & Friends," the host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" noted that there's a difference between moderate and conservative Republicans but in order to win a candidate has to be a little of both. He used conservative governors Scott Walker of Wisconsin and John Kasich of Ohio as examples of two Republicans who have managed to win in predominantly Democratic states.

"Conservatism is good for all Americans," Scarborough declared. "Moderate Republicans don't win elections. You've got to be conservative ideologically. But, you've got to be moderate temperamentally."

While it's easier for a Republican to win from a conservative district, the challenge for the party is to elect Republicans from primarily Democratic districts, he said.

"You get people that have figured out how to win in tough territory," he said. "The question is, 'How do we win in the suburbs of Philly? How do we win in the I-4 (Florida) corridor?'"

Scarborough was elected in the 1994 Republican revolution Pensacola, Fla. area. He served in the House from 1995 to 2001. His book focuses on how core conservative values have helped Republican win in modern elections.
