One of the highest ranking Republicans in the House of Representatives hasn't lost faith in the party's plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, The Hill reports.

"We're gonna get this done," House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana said Thursday, after the healthcare bill passed through his Energy and Commerce Committee.

"We know we have a lot of work to do. We just got through Step 1. Today is the beginning of the end of ObamaCare," he added just after the vote. "If you look at the Democratic faces on the committee after 27-and-a-half hours, you recognize just how powerful this moment is."

Scalise praised President Donald Trump for involving himself in the process.

"He's been very engaged. His staff is very engaged. He wants this bill on his desk," Scalise told the Hill. "He's been very hands on and it's been very helpful."

Scalise denied accusations from conservatives that the Republican plan doesn't go far enough in dismantling the Affordable Care Act.

"This bill truly does eviscerate ObamaCare. Every Democrat knew that. You could look at their faces. They knew we were about to eviscerate Barack Obama's signature achievement."

He added that almost every member of the Republican conference supports "85 percent" of the plan, specifically the defunding of Planned Parenthood, ending the employer mandate and eliminating taxes.

"It was significant that we got this first step done in a very unified way. The committee was unified. There was no Republican infighting," he said. "It was fun to fight between philosophies, conservatives and liberals, and that's what happened for 27-and-a-half hours."

On Friday, Trump predicted success for the bill in a meeting with House committee chairs.

"This is the time we're going to get it done," Trump said, according to USA Today. "I think it's just something that's going to happen very shortly."
