Fundraisers for Bernie Sanders defended the senator's decision not to share his donor list with Democrats, telling the HuffPost that it was tailored to his message and isn't "some magical vehicle that anyone can tap into."

Team Sanders orchestrated a fundraising machine that set records for online donations and grassroots giving over huge corporate interests.

But it was all about the message, not the party.

"The list is not just some magical vehicle that anyone can tap into," Robin Curran of the firm Revolution Messaging said on HuffPost's "Candidate Confessional" podcast.

"It was directly tied to the message Bernie carried on the campaign, and without that message, we would not have had the fundraising success that we did," Curran said.

"It's like the hammer of Thor," Tim Tagaris, who also works for Revolution, said on the podcast. "You can have it but only a few people can wield it."

Though Sanders thus far has refused to share his donors, he did share his dollars, reportedly giving the Democratic National Committee $100,000 in May.
