Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted Saturday he was pleased that President Donald Trump was considering Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Trey Gowdy for the chief FBI spot.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions interviewed four candidates to replace James Comey, who Trump hastily fired last week for being a "showboat" and a "grandstander" and for putting the FBI in turmoil.

Cornyn, the Senate majority whip, was interviewed along with FBI's Acting Director Andrew McCabe, New York associate judge Michael J. Garcia and Alice Fisher, who formerly served as assistant attorney general for the Justice Department's Criminal Division.

The Trump administration is said to be considering close to a dozen candidates for the position, including Gowdy, formerly a federal prosecutor who sits on the House Intelligence Committee.
