Robby Mook: Hillary's Email Remarks 'Slightly Misinterpreted'

MSNBC's "Morning Joe"

Hillary Clinton's campaign manager Robby Mook appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" and said that Clinton apologized for a mistake she made during a "Fox News Sunday" interview.

During her interview, Clinton blamed "the judgments of the professionals" about the classified material that she was involved with.

"Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough asked Mook if Clinton's comments made the issue more complicated.

"I think her remarks were slightly misinterpreted," Mook responded.

"What Director Comey said was that he believes there was no basis for her to believe that the emails in question, that you're referring to, that she had any reason to believe that they were classified."

Mook said that the emails were coming from multiple departments, and, "These are long-time tenured State Department professionals that worked for different administrations. These folks are not partisan. They were the ones sending her the emails. She, in his mind, she had no reason to believe they were classified."

Scarborough questioned Mook, asking "She was forcing everybody that wanted to communicate with her to move out of the classified realm where you send classified information and then put it on their own servers and send it to her. Isn't that worse?"

"That's simply not true," Mook said. "You just don't send classified information over the unclassified system."

"Well, you would understand this," Scarborough responded. "The FBI director said she did."

"What the director of the FBI testified was that he did not see a basis to believe that she knew the information in question was classified when she received it. That's what he said," according to Mook.

He added that "we don't know" if the emails were marked correctly as classified, and that they must rely on FBI Director James Comey's statements.

"Comey said in his testimony that everything she said to the FBI was true, and I can tell you what she said to the FBI is the same as what she's been saying publicly."
