The Republican National Committee Thursday filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the thousands of work-related emails from Hillary Clinton's private server that were discovered by the FBI in its investigation but never turned over to the State Department by the former secretary of state or her attorneys.

"Hillary Clinton failed to turn over 'several thousand' work-related emails despite falsely claiming she had done so to the State Department, the American people, and a federal court under penalty of perjury" Chairman Reince Priebus said.

"It is already well-established that Hillary Clinton used her post as Secretary of State to benefit the Clinton Foundation, its donors, and various Democratic insiders — and Americans preparing to elect their next president deserve to know the full extent of her underhanded conflicts of interest and subsequent cover-up."

In saying Tuesday that he would not recommend criminal charges against Clinton in the email probe, FBI Director James Comey disclosed that the agency had discovered "several thousand" emails that were not among the original 30,000 the Democratic presidential candidate had turned over to the State Department.

He told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Thursday that Clinton's actions regarding her private email use during her four years as the nation's top diplomat did not meet prosecutorial standards.

"There is no evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that she was using classified information or intended to retain it on her server," Comey said. "But when I said there is not clear evidence of intent, I cannot, even if the Department of Justice brought that case, I could not prove those elements."

Attorney General Loretta Lynch Wednesday closed the investigation without bringing charges against Clinton or her staff.

The RNC called the FBI-discovered emails were "federal records which were, in defiance of State Department officials, improperly deleted.

"Hillary Clinton's failure to turn them over contradicts her repeated insistence she turned over all her emails," the committee said in a statement.

"The RNC intends to pursue every possible legal and administrative option to produce the release of these records before Election Day."
