AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, a critic of Donald Trump during the presidential campaign, praised the White House's proposed infrastructure plan.

His comments came during an interview on the Fox Business Network after Trump said he would take action to rebuild the nation's infrastructure. Trump wants Congress to approve a $1 trillion package financed through public and private investment, according to the business new network.

Trumka said he supports the plan.

"A trillion dollars is the right magnitude to be talking about," he said. The Society of American Civil Engineers thinks it's more like $3 trillion. "

Trumka, noting it will lead to significant job creation, did voice concern over public-private partnerships, however.

"They are good around the edges but you're not going to get them to go into rural America where the infrastructure really is crumbling," he said.

"It's going to take a major infusion of public capital, and I hope the principle he will use is that we will use this project and insist on the lowest cost of capital so the tax dollar gets the biggest bang for the buck — If he does that I think we will support him whole-heartedly."

Trump said the program will create "millions of new jobs," CNN reported.

And the news network said the president's infrastructure program "may be one area with bipartisan agreement."
