Television political coverage is aimed at focusing on "division" rather than unity — because that's what makes money, the Republican National Committee' chairman says.

In an interview aired Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" with businessman John Catsimatidis,

Reince Preibus derided the media for being "obsessed" with safety at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

"Division is profit in the world of cable news," Preibus said, The Hill reports in excerpts posted ahead of the show. "If you’re dividing, you’re making money."

"There is no money in unity," he added. "It is a profit center to divide people, to divide politics, to divide parties. And that's what you see on television."

He said he'd be in Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention — and "looking forward to having a lot of fun with the Democrats."

"People know that Hillary Clinton is lousy," he said. "She is in the ditch," adding: "The trick to this [election] is, just like [Ronald] Reagan had to do in 1980, is convince people you can be in the White House."
