Sen. Paul: Obamacare Over in '10 Minutes' With 2016 GOP Plan

Republicans are at odds over parts of the plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but Sen. Rand Paul said that they agree over a previous repeal plan that they voted on in 2016.

"There is agreement on the previous repeal. Put that forward and we're done in 10 minutes, I promise you," the Kentucky Republican said Wednesday on Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

The senator is not in favor of a part of current plans that call for a refundable tax credit for customers to use on healthcare.

"How is that different from Obamacare subsidies? We just call them tax credits instead of subsidies," Paul said.

Instead, replacing Obamacare can be done separately, he said.

"It's going to require more consensus and frankly, it's going to require Democrats to vote for. But many of the items that we have disagreement on, put them in a separate package, and we're done with this. We can be done in a week with repeal of Obamacare, if they will give us the repeal we voted on previously," the senator said.

Republicans have an Obamacare replacement bill at the ready and "I would put it forward on the exact same day" as the repeal is finalized, Paul said.

That bill is a free market plan that would lower insurance costs, according to the senator in the Fox News interview.

In his speech to Congress Tuesday night, President Donald Trump supported the tax credit plan that Paul criticized, according to Reuters
