Jihadist groups and Islamic State supporters took to social media on Sunday to praise President Donald Trump's immigrant travel ban, according to The Washington Post.

"Al-Baghdadi has the right to come out and inform Trump that banning Muslims from entering America is a 'blessed ban,'" one pro-ISIS social media poster said, referring to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

That poster also praised the U.S.'s invasion of Iraq in 2003, saying the invasion "ignited anti-Western fervor across the Islamic world," according to The Post.

Several posters said Trump's ban means the U.S. is turning against residents of the U.S. who are Muslim, fulfilling a prediction made by al-Qaida leader Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2011.

The ban "clearly revealed the truth and harsh reality behind the American government's hatred toward Muslims," one poster said.

"The dogs of the cross should know their true value now. Worthless," an Islamic State supporter said, about Muslims who collaborate with the United States to fight against Islamist terror groups, according to Foreign Policy.

Islamic State leaders often aim to incite doubt about Western governments' support of Muslims who live there, and Trump's ban makes that an easier task, according to The Post.

"Jihadists would have to argue to lengths that Obama, Bush, and others held anti-Islam agendas and hated the religion — not just radical terrorists. Trump, however, makes that argument a lot easier to sell to their followers," Rita Katz, founder of jihadist website monitor SITE Intelligence Group, said in The Post.

"This is a win for jihadists and other anti-U.S. forces. It fuels the belief out there that Americans are anti-Islam," CIA veteran Robert Richer said in The Post.
