The Senate Conservatives Fund on Tuesday vowed to mount primary challenges next year to Republican senators who vote against repealing Obamacare next week.

"Republicans have promised to repeal Obamacare for years and now with President [Donald] Trump in the White House, there is no excuse for them to break their promise," the super PAC, headed by former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, said on its website.

"Working with the grassroots across the country, we will seek to identify, recruit, and fund conservative challengers against Republican senators who vote against repeal.

"If they won't keep their word and if they can't find the courage to repeal a liberal takeover of our healthcare system that has hurt so many American families, they should be replaced by someone who will."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he hoped to schedule a vote next week for a plan to outright repeal the Affordable Care Act with the goal of replacing it within two years.

Three Republicans – Sens. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – said they would not support repeal without an immediate replacement.

Republicans hold a 52-48 majority in the chamber and can afford to lose only two votes on any healthcare legislation.

The Senate last voted to repeal Obamacare in 2015. Republicans in the House, however, have voted more than 50 times to end the law.

Collins and Capito face re-election in 2020, while Murkowski is comes up in 2022.
