The winner of the war of words between President Donald Trump and CNN appears to clearly be a partisan affair, as a Survey Monkey poll showed that 89 percent of Republicans consider the president as more trustworthy and 91 percent of Democrats saying the opposite, Axios reported on Tuesday.

Among all adults, CNN placed 7 points ahead of Trump for being trustworthy, thanks in large part to a 15-point margin in favor of the network by independents (55 percent to 40 percent).

Other results of the survey show:

  • The Washington Post and The New York Times were considered more trustworthy than Trump by a 9 percentage point margin, while ABC/CBS/NBC were determined to be more trustworthy than the president by an 11 percentage point margin.
  • Sixty-four percent of all adults disapprove of Trump's use of Twitter, including 38 percent of GOP supporters and 89 percent of Democrats.
  • In describing the tweets, 47 percent of the public called them undignified, 34 percent said they were mean, 26 percent considered them entertaining and 7 percent thought they were presidential.
  • Thirty-three percent of Republicans say they get their news only from Fox News.

In examining the results, Survey Monkey SVP Jon Cohen told Axios that "a red flag for Democrats continues to be a perception that Trump is isolating himself from the GOP base with his tweets.

"Not only do most Republicans approve of his use of Twitter, but when asked to describe those tweets, the No. 1 mention among the GOP is 'truthful,' with 'entertaining' in second place."

However, Cohen said the "biggest danger for Republicans is that they grow content with firing up the base: Fully three-quarters of pure independents disapprove of Trump's tweeting, and their top three descriptors for it are 'undignified,' 'mean,' and 'dishonest.'"

The online poll of 4,965 adults was taken between June 29 and July 3. The margin of error is estimated at +/- 2.5 points.
