WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Forget about the presidential race. Even Hillary Rodham Clinton knows which contest mattered to basketball-crazed North Carolinians in the middle of March Madness. "I have never felt more pressure in my life!" Clinton said after arriving more than an hour late to a rally here Thursday. "I know that Carolina plays in about 30 minutes, so I will not be the least bit offended if all of you folks ... have to go see that game." The University of North Carolina men's basketball team, the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Eastern division, and Washington State University were facing off Thursday night in one of the "Elite Eight" contests en route to the Final Four. "Now you could wait for maybe the halftime?" Clinton said, who smiled when she saw the mass of supporters shaking their heads no. "I am so grateful to have this opportunity to speak with you," she said, zipping through her stump speech to give Carolina fans time to get home for the game. ___ Compiled by Beth Fouhy.
