Rep. Pete King: Georgia Win Should Tell Trump 'Don't Bother Tweeting'

Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., said Republican Karen Handel's win in Georgia should send a message to President Donald Trump that he can pull back on his tweets.

"It shows people are fed up with the Democrats just attacking and attacking — attacking the president, and also, it should send a signal to the president not to react to negative publicity, just go forward," King told Fox Business on Wednesday.

"Don't bother tweeting, just go ahead with your agenda and your program," King said.

"The American people still want to give him a chance to get the job done, and they are not accepting the negative posturing and campaigning of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats," he added.

Handel's win was a bigger win than Trump got in that district in the presidential race, he continued, and "over the last seven months, no one has gotten worse media coverage, worse press, had more things going against him than President Trump and yet, President Trump won the Georgia district, I think by less than 2 percent last November.

"Last night, Karen Handel won it by 4 points, so she doubled his victory margin," King said.

King has criticized the Trump's tweeting habits before. In February, he called on the president to stop making "unforced errors" that take over headlines, according to The Hill.
