Vice President-elect Mike Pence detailed President-elect Donald Trump's plans for when he first takes office in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Friday.

"I think the only thing that will surprise them is that Washington, D.C., is going to get an awful lot done in a short period of time," Pence said of voters about Trump's White House.

Pence, who spoke to the newspaper after introducing Trump at a rally in Cincinnati, suggested that Trump's administration may not stick to the free-market principles that guided previous Republican presidents. Instead, Trump may take a more hands-on approach to individual companies' personnel and operating decisions.

Trump's first priorities for his administration are to deter illegal immigration, repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court, and improve the strength of the military, according to Pence.

By spring, Trump hopes to work with leaders in Congress "to move fundamental tax reform" meant to "free up the pent-up energy in the American economy."

The tax overhaul would include lower marginal tax rates, reducing corporate tax rates "from some of the highest in the industrialized world" to 15 percent.

These policies would "benefit American workers and strengthen American incomes," Pence told the Journal.

Trump's rally in Cincinnati marks the beginning of a "thank you" tour of battleground states, where the Republican candidates can thank their supporters.

"Our victory was so great, we have the House, we have the Senate, we have the presidency," Trump said in Cincinnati, The Hill reported. "People are constantly telling you and telling me to reduce our expectations. Now is not the time to downsize our dreams."
