House Speaker Paul Ryan said he's weighing punishment for protesting Democrats involved in a 25-hour gun reform sit-in last month

"I am very worried about the trend and the precedent and so we are looking at all options for consequences to make sure that we can get Congress working again," Ryan said Thursday, the Washington Examiner reports.

Ryan says he's met with the House Sergeant at Arms, the parliamentarians, and other House floor staff to take a look at the June 22 sit-in, the Examiner reports.

The live-streaming of the protest by lawmakers using their own electronic devices appears to be in violation of House rules, the Examiner reports, adding the demonstration also disrupted legislative business.

"We did an exhaustive review," Ryan said, the Examiner reports. "We researched the tape, looked at what infractions occurred, what kinds of rules were violated."

Ryan adds that he's gotten "a number of recommendations from the dispassionate objective of authorities here in Congress," about whether to punish Democrats, adding, "We have not taken any options off the table."

But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., scoffed at the GOP efforts, lauding protest leader Georgia Rep. John Lewis as a civil rights hero who was arrested numerous times during protests in the 1960s.

"We are not going away," Pelosi vowed, the Examiner reports. "We will persist until we get a bill passed to protect the American people."

"I'll do what my members want to do," she said, when asked if more gun reform sit-ins are planned.
