WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has set a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq and he says he doesn't plan to speed it up. Obama tells CBS' "Face the Nation" in an interview broadcast Sunday that his plan is the right one, setting a gradual withdrawal through Iraq's national elections. Obama has announced plans to end the U.S. combat mission on Aug. 31, 2010. Under his plan, the 142,000 U.S. forces in Iraq would be drawn down to between 35,000 and 50,000 troops by the 2010 date. All forces would be withdrawn by the last day of 2011. The president hopes for more progress on Iraq's political side, but acknowledges that much work remains ahead, including training more Iraqi security forces. Still, Obama says he's confidence things are moving in the right direction.
