Many Americans said they are worried that the U.S. will become engaged in a major war at some point over the next four years under President Donald Trump, NBC News reported.

Americans polled by NBC News and Survey Monkey also said they felt favorably toward NATO and that the alliance was good for the United States. Thirty-six percent of people polled said they were very worried about the possibility of becoming engaged in a major war while 30 percent said they were somewhat worried. Twenty-five percent said they were not too worried.

Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning Americans, that number was high at 88 percent. Republicans and Republican-leaning Americans, on the other hand, reported being much less worried, with only 40 percent expressing concerns.

In the same poll, most Americans (61 percent) said they were concerned about the United States' relationship with Russia and said they considered Russia unfriendly or an enemy of the U.S.

Russia at first celebrated Trump's win on Election Day but relations between the two countries seem to be worsening amid rising anti-Russia sentiment in Washington, D.C.. Trump said last week that Russia took Crimea during the Obama administration, suggesting his predecessor was "too soft" on Russia over its annexation.

The NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll was conducted online from Feb. 13-19 among a national sample of 11,512 adults.
