Saying that America has buyer's remorse, the head of Utah's Republican Party is leading an online effort to draft 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney to run for president again in 2016.

Romney has repeatedly said he will not run again after losing the party's nomination in 2008 to Arizona Sen. John McCain, then losing the general election to President Barack Obama in 2012.

But James Evans, the Utah GOP leader in charge of the draft Romney effort, says he believes the group can change his mind.

"It's our job to bring the data to Gov. Romney and simply make one case: Enough Republicans that didn't vote for you last time are ready to vote for you now," Evans said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto."

Evans says the movement is nationwide, but did not tell Deseret News who outside the state of Utah is involved. Currently, the effort consists of a website, draftmitt.org, that asks people to sign up and check boxes indicating whether they would vote for Romney or volunteer for his campaign should he agree to run.

The website plans to gather signatures through November, Evans told Deseret News. He also said he accepts Romney's refusal to run only as a "first offer."

"We have to respond back with evidence to show why the 'no' is a position that needs to change," he said.
