Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is the least-popular member of the upper chamber of Congress among home-state voters, according to Morning Consult, with Minority Leader Harry Reid close behind him as the third least liked.

Based on interviews with nearly 72,000 registered voters, Morning Consult compiled the data on how constituents feel about their senators. In McConnell's Kentucky, 51 percent disapprove of the Republican leader and 39 percent approve. In Reid's Nevada, 43 percent disapprove of the Democrat, while 44 percent approve of him.

Republicans outnumber Democrats in the bottom five, with Kansas' Pat Roberts in second, and former presidential candidates John McCain of Arizona and Marco Rubio of Florida taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Roberts ranked ahead of Reid because fewer constituents said they approve of him, at 40 percent, than Reid, at 44 percent.

McCain and Rubio are both up for reelection in November. According to Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball from the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, McCain and Rubio are likely, but not certain, to win.

A Morning Consult poll from November 2015 found that nationally, 52 percent disapproved of McConnell, while 38 percent approved. In April of this year, the figures were 49 percent and 40 percent, respectively.

Reid, who will retire once his current term ends, "has soured with Silver State voters and is now the third-least popular senator," the survey notes. "That's up two spots from earlier this year."

The New Republic reports that McConnell and Reid "have been giving each other the Capitol Hill equivalent of the silent treatment ever since they sat down for a routine meeting in late November."
