In a bid to capture more attention, two major outside groups splurge billions of dollars in the Missouri Senate race as Republican Sen. Roy Blunt and his Democratic counterpart, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander gear up for a major dash, USA Today reports.

While public polls and private judgments tout Blunt as a slight favorite, Republicans, Democrats and outside analysts are of the opinion that the senator is cautious in his bid for a second six-year term.

The Hill reports Blunt has been leading in most polls this year. However, the Republicans are wary of his ability to hold on to his seat.

According to The Missouri Times, Blunt along with support of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released a $2.5 million TV ad Tuesday attacking Kander. In the ad, Kander is projected as "too liberal" for Missouri and highlights votes he cast as state representative.

Analysts though are still positive of Democrat Kander's chances. The Senate Democrats' campaign committee intend to spend $1.5 million in Missouri to boost Kander, but are yet to decide how they would go about it.

"Republicans never dreamed they would have to spend time and energy defending Roy Blunt, but Jason is running a strong campaign and we are proud to support him," said Sadie Weiner, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

The cash boost from both parties comes in the wake of recent polls, where Kander has reportedly picked up in the race. However, according to a Missouri Senate and Presidential poll, the Republican still holds a 4.8 percentage point lead in the race.

"Democrats are pleased with how one of their star recruits, 35-year-old Secretary of State and Afghanistan veteran Jason Kander, is doing," The Washington Post posted in July. "Still, Missouri is trending red, not blue, so a Democratic win here is possible, but it'd still be an upset."

Kander and his Democratic allies have lashed out at Blunt over his son's and wife's lobbying work. They have also accused him of using "too frequently" charter aircrafts for travel at taxpayers expenses.
