As the FBI investigates who hacked and leaked embarrassing Democratic Party emails in which officials plotted to destroy Bernie Sanders' presidential bid, Mike Huckabee emerged Tuesday with his own theory about what will happen.

"The FBI is now investigating the DNC email hacking, due to suspicions that Russia might be behind it," the former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate wrote on his Facebook page.

"After an extensive investigation, they will determine that while Russia exposed all the DNC's cyber-secrets, they didn't really intend to.

"So Vladimir Putin will be let off with a warning not to be so careless next time."

Huckabee's prediction comes as numerous theories emerge as to whether Russian President Vladimir Putin masterminded the leaks that led to the resignation of Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

The New York Times suggests that Putin, if he is involved, did so to help Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's chances in the general election.

The Times says Trump's "admiration for the Russian leader, shared by some of his campaign advisers, is clear," while Hillary Clinton has a "far more contentious history" with him.
